Ways to reuse an old garage door

If you are considering updating your home or business’ look by installing a new garage door but are unsure of what to do with your old, outdated garage door, consider these creative ways to recycle an old garage door.

First, old garage doors can be used to create a frame for a garden or compost pile.  Cutting the garage door panels to create sides and cutting one panel in half for the ends makes an easy to build structure.  If your old garage door is made of steel or aluminum, use appropriate metal cutting shears.  If made of wood, a circular saw may be necessary.

Secondly, if you have a wood or wood composite garage door, you can use the materials to make a small green house.  By cutting the garage door and rebuilding it into a small box, your plants can stay warm and grow through cold weather.  Lastly, old garage doors can make beautiful headboards for your home’s bedrooms by simply sanding or painting them.
