Security upgrade of Army base results in garage door jams

Many people in Augusta, Georgia were baffled when their garage doors experienced glitches in early June. The glitch, which caused garage door openers to stop working, prompted numerous phone calls to local companies as people tried to find a solution to the inoperative doors.

The cause of the glitch was the Fort Gordon Army base’s upgrade of radio frequencies to improve emergency communications. Garage doors from houses as far away as 12 miles experienced the glitch because the remote frequency of the garage doors and the new military system were the same.

Similar incidents of jammed garage doors have previously been reported before in neighborhoods near military bases in California and Connecticut.
