Importance of regular garage door inspections

The garage door is an important feature of the home, not only for aesthetic reasons but also for security purposes. This is why it is beneficial to inspect your garage regularly in order to correct minor issues before they become larger problems.

Small yet frequent amounts of maintenance on your garage door can prevent you from having to replace either the door or any parts earlier than needed. A typical inspection may also include the adjustment of cables, tightening the door tracks, and checking all hinges and other hardware.

A regular inspection can also involve adding lubrication to the door,  checking sensors, and examining the springs. Making sure that sensors work is especially important if you have small children or pets so that they are not accidentally trapped under the door.

One of the most common garage door issues is broken springs. Most springs will last 5 to 7 years, but a cold climate may cause them to wear out a little more quickly. It may be a good idea to test your garage’s springs, receive a professional inspection if necessary, and then determine if any other work needs to be done.
