Port Royal Fire Station suffers damage to garage door

The fire station in Port Royal is in need of garage door repair after an accident occurred this week while the firetrucks were on their way to attend to a fire.

On Wednesday morning, two firetrucks were responding to a call when a firefighter in the first truck pressed the wrong button on the remote control to the garage. He meant to close the door to his truck’s bay but instead closed the door to the second bay. The second truck did not see their door begin to close and subsequently collided with it, causing all of the windows to break.

The town intends to pay for the repairs out-of-pocket because the estimated repairs cost less than the insurance deductible. A repair crew is already on the scene to fix the door as soon as possible. Repairs may cost up to $1,000.
