Data centers to be built in Austin

Houston-based data center provider CyrusOne has started construction on a new 72,000 square foot data center off U.S. 183 and Texas 71 in Austin.  Construction on the data center is expected to be finished in fall 2011.

CyrusOne opened their first location in Austin in 2009.  The original space is only a short distance from the future data center and is 50,000 square feet.  In addition, CyrusOne is negotiating building three more large data centers in the same area, making a total of 290,000 square feet of space.

CyrusOne specializes in operating data centers for clients needing colocation services.  Customers purchase and maintain computers and networking technology to be used in the data centers.  The centers are for the most part automated and only employ around 10 to 15 workers at each site.
