Austin car burglaries increase in recent months

Police officers and residents in Austin have noticed that car burglaries have steadily been increasing in certain parts of Austin, such as East 6th Street and William Cannon Drive.

These car burglaries may be due to the fact that a record number of people are now parking on the street rather than using garages. One man who lives on 6th Street stated that, after witnessing four car burglaries on the street near his home, he will only park in a garage.

According to police officers, over 700 vehicles have been broken into since January. Officers have begun placing tracking devices in decoy cars in order to catch automobile burglars, however, they say that this usually only works as a deterrent.
