First quarter home building stats reported

On Monday, the Austin American-Statesman reported on home building figures from the first quarter of this year.  From January through March, construction began on 1,430 homes in Austin.  This is 37 percent higher than the number of homes that began construction in the last quarter of 2010.

In addition, 1,301 home buyers moved into new homes in Austin in the first quarter of 2011.  For the 12-month period ending in March, home building companies began construction work on 5,972 homes.

Experts say that Austin’s success at creating job growth has had a lot to do with its recovering real estate and home building markets.  Last year alone, 9,800 jobs were added in the Austin area.
