Two men injured when garage door falls onto them

Two men in Vancouver were seriously injured at their job at the Manitoba Works Yard when a heavy garage door collapsed on top of them as they entered the service bay. An inspection by the Workers’ Compensation Board found many of the doors to be unsafe and not properly maintained as required by manufacturer’s instructions.

Coworkers who witnessed the accident report that the garage doors’ cables suddenly snapped and pinned one man beneath it and struck the other. The man pinned beneath the door was unconscious when emergency responders arrived, The Province reports. At the hospital, he was required to undergo back and heart surgeries.

At this time, both men are still recovering from their injuries and have not returned to work. Further investigation into the accident lead the Workers’ Compensation Board to shut down 25 of the garage doors due to safety concerns.
