Summer tip: keep garage doors closed regardless of the heat

Police in El Paso have recently issued a statement that homeowners who leave their garage doors open are more likely to be targeted by burglars. Leaving the garage door open is a summertime trend in El Paso because people want to make sure that hot summer air is released from within their garages. Although this is a good idea, it may make the home a target for break-ins.

In the northeast area of El Paso, home burglaries have increased by nearly 37%. However, home break-ins have decreased in other parts of the city.

Police have noted that the increase in burglaries has affected homeowners that have left either their garage door, windows, or home doors cracked. Police are telling homeowners to secure their homes as well as report any suspicious activity. Homeowners may also need to repair or replace their existing garage doors to fully protect their homes.
