Fossil Creek to offer space for commercial development

The Austin City Council recently updated policy concerning municipal utility districts, or MUDs, for the first time since 1984.  If a development requests and is approved to be a municipal utility district, the city will use public funding for the development’s infrastructure and municipal services.  Now, in order to qualify to be a MUD, a developer must prove that the area will provide superior benefits to the public such as low home prices, environmentally-conscious features, access to public transit and open space.

The Fossil Creek development, located in northeast Travis County near Killingsworth Lane and Cameron Road, has temporarily removed its application to be a MUD.  Fossil Creek covers 295 acres, including 143 acres of open land, and when finished will include 792 single-family homes and 40 acres for commercial development.
