BuildFax creates home remodeling index

BuildFax, the leading provider of home building and remodeling permit data in the country, has created the nation’s first resource for residential remodeling activity data.  The Buildfax Residential Remodeling Index (BFRRI) was launched on Tuesday and obtains information from local building authorities all over the country about residential building and remodeling.

The BFRRI divides the country into Northeastern, Southern, Midwestern and Western regions.  The first report covers data from up to November 2010 and uses monthly and yearly comparisons.  New reports will be added to the BFRRI every month on the day after the Census’ housing starts data is released.

The first report indicated that remodeling continues to be more popular than home building.  November 2010 marked the seventh month in a row with a remodeling index value over 100.
